The starting page is the initial page retrieved for the channel. This page, and optionally, the pages it links to, are retrieved.
A starting page can be one of 3 things:
Beginner tip: If starting on a website URL, don't forget the http:// at the start.
Power user tip: "You can use Plucker to retrieve a password protected site (ie one where your webbrowser pop ups up a dialog prompting for username and password, not one where you enter the username and password somewhere in the webpage.) This is done by including your username/password in the starting url. The format is: http://myusername:mypassword@www.somewebsite.com. Be aware that your username and password will now be included in the referring page if you go offsite, so to prevent other sites from looking at your username and password in their weblogs, be sure that either stayonhost or stayondomain filter is switched on, in the Limits Tab .
